The monastery is the head of the Franciscan order in Peru. The church dates back to 1774 and is world famous. There is a famous library and catacomb. The most visited by tourists will be the catacomb. The catacomb has over 25,000 bodies. In the seventeenth and eighteenth century, it is used as a burial ground to prevent the spread of diseases. It is eventually closed in 1821.
